Laura Garwin received a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Performance from the Royal College of Music in 2009, having studied trumpet with Alistair Mackie, Paul Beniston and Paul Archibald, and natural trumpet with Neil Brough. At the College, Laura played principal trumpet in both the Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta, and, with other RCM trumpets, played with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the First Night of the 2008 Proms, which was broadcast live on BBC radio and television. She is now an active freelancer in London, and principal trumpet of the Orchestra of St Paul's and St Paul's Sinfonia.
Laura has degrees in physics and Earth sciences from Harvard University and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and worked in science journalism and research administration before deciding to pursue a career in music. She originally came to Britain from the United States on a Rhodes scholarship.
